Garrett has made a life’s effort out of turning work into play. He’s very serious about taking life less seriously. He writes songs from a perspective of never feeling alone, no matter what it is you’re feeling. When asked the question of why he plays music, “love and connection” is the answer. Energy, passion, vulnerability, originality, and truly leaving it all on the stage is his commitment to anyone who shares their attention, energy, and time with Martian Folk.
FatJoeyT is our versatile drummer and percussionist who also doubles on vocal harmonies and the occasional rhyme or two!
Apart from playing in Martian Folk, he recently retired from the US Army, where he served as a career musician in Army Bands across the country, deployed to Iraq, and toured extensively throughout Europe. He also happens to have a love and passion for skateboarding and snowboarding, which adds to his youthful demeanor on and off stage. He loves to travel and interact with people, so you will likely spot his smile and hear his laugh at concerts and shows.
Martian Folk multi-instrumentalist Nestor Rios brings sounds that are out of this world through his unique playing and choice of instrumentation. For Martian Folk, he primarily features the saxophone played through effect pedals, though his other instruments include harmonica, and the aerophone. His background in jazz can be heard resonating across his melodic hooks and solos. Nestor’s passion to play music goes beyond just a form of expression, he plays with the intent to touch and help others through music. As a Registered Nurse Nestor furthers that desire by providing care in the inpatient hospital setting.
